Het ontstaan
The Juste un Clou was designed in the 1970s by Aldo Cipullo — from the same New York studio that also produced the Love bracelet. The idea is equally conceptual: a nail that wraps around the wrist, with the head on one side and the point on the other. In post-1968 New York, the image — industrial, informal, with a nod to the punk idiom that would follow a decade later — suited a customer base that the house actively sought to reach.
Early production numbers were limited. The line largely disappeared from the regular offering in the 1980s and 1990s and was re-released with much publicity in 2012 as a broadly developed assortment: bracelets, rings, pendants, and earrings in three gold colours and with optional pavé executions. Since that relaunch, the line has once again become one of the house's most recognisable.
The consequence for the second-hand market is significant. Early work from the 1970s has a documentable rare profile; modern work is widely available, in broader execution variations and with complete papers. Both categories have their own pricing logic.
