Het ontstaan
The Alhambra was introduced in 1968. The house, established in 1906 on Place Vendôme, was at a crossroads: haute joaillerie for the very top market, and at the same time, the desire to design a recognisable, repeatable line that would appeal to a broader customer base without diminishing the house's profile. The choice of a clover motif — four leaves, universally imbued with symbolism of luck — is that combination of immediately legible and elegant.
The name refers to the Alhambra palace in Granada. The house has always cited the architectural richness of Moorish ornamentation as an inspiration, although the direct formal link to specific motifs in the palace has been disputed in later art historical discussions. What is certain is that the line became popular from its early years in circles around the house — Grace Kelly is one of the earliest known wearers — and that the clover shape has remained constant since its introduction.
In the decades that followed, the line grew into an extensive family. In addition to the classic short necklace, long necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings, and pendants were introduced, all featuring the same clover motif. There are versions with one clover, with five, with ten, and with twenty; narrower and wider formats; and variants with and without pavé diamonds on the clover itself or along the edge.
