B.zero1: value, history, and authenticity — independent guide

Door de redactie · Vakinhoudelijk getoetst · Bijgewerkt juli 2026

B.zero1 is a relatively young line — introduced in 1999 — that has established a firm place in the second-hand market. This is unusual for a modern brand series: most series from that period have not yet built a consistent collector's profile. The value of a B.zero1 ring, bracelet, or necklace depends on its execution (material, number of bands, pavé or not), size, and completeness — plus, to a lesser extent, the design period within the line itself, as the line has seen multiple collaborations and revisions over the past two decades.

This guide describes the line at a pattern level. No serial number formats or engraving details. For verification: papers included and physical appraisal by an appraiser.

Het ontstaan

B.zero1 was launched in 1999 to mark the end of the twentieth century and to introduce a jewellery identity that the house wished to carry into the new millennium. The design is a direct quote from the Colosseum in Rome: a cylindrical shape composed of multiple concentric bands, with the brand name in its characteristic house letters on the side edges — the same principle that the Colosseum as a structure uses in its floors.

Early campaigns explicitly referred to the house as 'sculpture wearable' — wearable sculpture — positioning the line between jewellery and architectural citation. For the second-hand market, this is a relevant background: collectors treat the line with a certain premium for its conceptual character, more so than with comparable modern executions without a clear art historical reference point.

In the two decades that followed, the line expanded with collaborations with contemporary designers, with wider and narrower executions, with ceramic and stone versions (marble, ceramic, mother-of-pearl), and with pavé variants. Each sub-series has built its own collector's profile.

Uitvoeringen door de jaren

The classic execution has four concentric bands. Executions with one, two, three, or five bands exist and differ in proportion and weight. Wider bands are scarcer and are at the upper end of the range. Materials: yellow, white, and rose gold, with variants in steel (for sub-series), ceramic, marble, and pavé executions with diamonds along the edges.

Older work from the first years (around 1999-2005) can be recognised by a slightly different proportion between band width and side edges, and by certain design-specific details in the brand inscription on the sides. Work from collaborations with well-known contemporary designers has its own dating and its own sub-market.

What characterises the pricing: because the line is still relatively young, there are substantially more pieces in circulation than with classic lines from the mid-twentieth century. This makes the second-hand market liquid, but less susceptible to scarcity premiums than with early Tubogas work. Only collaboration series, scarce material variants, and top pieces with pavé execution deviate from this.

Echt of namaak?

The line is copied, though less intensively than, for example, the Love bracelet from the other house in this series. Copies range from recognisably amateurish work to professionally executed imitations. Patterns that should raise suspicion: irregularly engraved brand letters on the side edges, bands that are not perfectly concentric, a weight that deviates from what an appraiser expects for the execution in question, and the classic: an asking price that is extremely low for the presumed execution.

The escalation route is standard: papers and box first, then physical appraisal by an appraiser with specific experience in the line, and where possible archive verification through the house. For collaboration pieces, designer documentation is extra valuable.

Wat de tweedehandsmarkt kwalitatief laat zien

  • Standard ring, complete set, good condition

Box, purchase receipt, and warranty card present.

Ranges are qualitative. Actual value requires appraisal by an independent appraiser.

Verkopen of laten beoordelen

Keep the box, purchase receipt, warranty card, and any collaboration documentation together. For the realised price, completeness makes a difference, although this difference is slightly less significant for this relatively young line than for older series. Veelgestelde vragen

Wat lezers vaak vragen

What is a B.zero1 worth?

Standard executions are in a broad mid-range; wider bands, pavé executions, and collaboration pieces are higher. Concrete amounts only have meaning after an appraiser assesses the piece.

How do I recognise a genuine B.zero1?

Not with certainty on your own. Verification is through papers, physical appraisal by an appraiser, and where possible, archive research from the house. Extremely low asking prices on second-hand platforms are almost always a signal.

Does a B.zero1 hold its value?

Standard executions are highly liquid in the second-hand market but move close to their purchase value. Collaboration executions and top pieces have structurally appreciated more. As a category, the line is stable but not explicitly growth-driven like some older series.

Should I sell with or without the box and papers?

With. For this relatively young line, the box, purchase receipt, and warranty card are a prerequisite for many buyers; without papers, the price measurably decreases.
